Rachel Broadbent
Rachel is a busy and versatile oboist, playing in orchestras and performing as a soloist and chamber musician. Alongside performing Rachel is a music educator, encouraging, teaching and coaching the next generation of oboists and young woodwind players.
Rachel studied at Birmingham Conservatoire with George Caird and Jonathan Kelly, gaining a 1st class B.Mus(hons) in 1995. She then went on to study for a post graduate diploma at Guildhall School of Music and Drama studying with Richard Simpson.
Rachel is principal oboe of Southern Sinfonia, British Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and the English Pro Musica and is a regular member of the Brandenburg Sinfonia. Rachel has worked with many other orchestras over the years including the BBC Concert Orchestra, Glyndebourne Touring Opera, London Mozart Players, London Chamber Orchestra, London Concert Orchestra, Heritage Opera amongst many others. She also works regularly as a soloist performing concertos and recitals around the country. In 2020 Rachel set up a series of online oboe workshops. RBOboeEdition was set up in 2017 after Rachel wrote her first book, 20 Character Pieces. In her 24 years of teaching Rachel has developed a huge understanding of the technique required at various levels and always encourages students to balance technique with musicality. Over the past few years Rachel has written a series of educational works for the oboe that focus on technique without forgetting musicality and her music has been found to be fun and engaging to play.
